Rob Jefferies Memorial Meeting CANCELLED

Unfortunately, the Rob Jefferies Memorial Meeting has been cancelled, due to a dissapointing lack of entries in all categories.

Being a national event and being in tribute to a great racer and race organiser, the small numbers did not seem befitting of the event and so, with no signs of a late rush of entries just around the corner, the decision has been made to pull the plug.

It just remains to apologise to and thank those that did enter, as well as everyone who helped with promotion and flyering the event.

Event Details

Hello. Welcome to the event website for the Rob Jefferies Memorial Meet.

Date: Sunday July 20th, racing starts at 1pm.

There are 4 categories:

3/4s... This is the support series of events, based around the Eddie Beck Memorial and geared towards new riders to the sport. If you are in your first couple of years racing track, or indeed are a regular at your local track's 'b' league then this is the event for you. The Eddie Beck Memorial is a 40 lap points race, with primes for the sprint laps every 5 laps. You will also ride a 20 lap warm up scratch race,a 6 lap dash and a devil (elimination).

E/1/2/3... This is the main series of events, based around the Rob Jefferies Memorial Race, a 100 lap (25km) points race with primes for each of the sprint laps every 10 laps. This race has a £200 prize fund. There is also the Alan Spencer Devil, which has a prize fund of £100, a winner takes all 6 lap dash and a 20 lap warm up. The Rob Jefferies Memorial Race counts towards the National Hardtrack Endurance League (https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/?series_id=5).

U16/U14... As above, riders race a 20 lap points race, a 15 lap warm up, a 6 lap dash and an elimination. Races will be run with seperate boys and girls categories, on the assumption that enough boys and girls enter to make this worth while (so GET ENTERING!). As in other categories, there will be prize money and primes for all events.

Women... Once again, a warm up race, a 6 lap dash, a devil and a points race, open to senior women of all categories.

The Rob Jefferies Memorial meeting is very happy to announce some of the sponsors for this year's event.

Back for a second year is Jurassic Cabs, a Wareham based taxi firm run by Dave Wade, organiser of this year's National A level One Day In Dorset road race.

Also back again is the Anglo European Chiropractic College, or AECC, who proved very popular last year with some of their interns providing massages for aching legs in the track center.

New for this year is Bournemouth based tattoo studio Indelible, who's IT guy Will Clark has been a regular at the Bournemouth track league and has already entered the elite category for what will be his second attempt at the race.

For this year, each category will ride four races: a warm up race, a six lap dash, a devil (elimination) and a points race.  Categories are open to senior men (E/1/2/3), "club level" level senior men (3/4), U16 & U14 boys and girls (U16/U14) and Women (women). Prizes will be offered for all events and primes and prizes for the sprint laps in the points races.

Back For 2014

The Rob Jefferies Memorial Meet is back for 2014, with a date set for Sunday 20th July.

After a very successful first year, the race returns with a new tier of events for elite women riders. Rob was a champion of women's cycling and so it was thought appropriate with the current explosion in the women's race scene in Britain to include them in a stand alone category.

As with last year, there is still the elite men's series of races for E/1/2/3/4s, races for 'club' riders of 3/4th category, races for youth A & B riders as well as the new category for 1/2/3 Women. Each category will get to ride a 20 lap warm up, a six lap dash, a devil-take-the-hindmost and a final distance points race. This will be the Rob Jefferies Mini Memorial for youths, the Eddie Beck Memorial for club riders and the 100 lap Rob Jefferies Memorial for the elite men, counting for points in the national hard track endurance league and coming with it's rather lovely fossilised trophy.

Once again, proceeds from the event will be going towards the charity RoadPeace, helping victims of road traffic accidents with legal and emotional support (more details www.roadpeace.org/‎)

In the meantime, I'm off to Sweden for a week poking around abandoned military facilities and it only remains for me to offer a HUGE thank you to EVERYONE involved in making the day a success. Entry On The Line (EOL) Still Available For The Rob Jefferies Memorial

Entry on the line is still available for the Rob Jefferies Memorial in all categories. The race is on Sunday 28th July, with events starting at 1pm. Sign on is from 11.30, so get down early to ensure one of the remaining places on the start list. The cost is £15 for seniors, £10 for youths.

Just to remind everybody, the race has a £600 prize fund and has categories for Elite (E/1/2/3/4), for club riders (3/4) as well as seperate races for both u16/14 boys and girls. The Eddie Beck Memorial

This will enter you into a series of races (a scratch race, a roadman's pursuit, a devil take the hindmost and the grand finale points race) and give you the opportunity to win a range of prizes. The final, points, race has a 'prime' for every fifth of the forty laps, meaning that the first across the line will receive a prize every five laps.

Youth Events For Girls... And The Roadman's Pursuit.

After a flurry of female entries into the Youth events, we can now announce an exclusive, girls only event. There are already a series of 'Roadman's Pursuit' events for the top tier (The Rob Jefferies Memorial) the support events (The Eddie Beck Memorial) and the youth As and Bs.

These involve the top six finishers in the warm up races starting at six equidistant points around the track. On the gun the riders have to go from a standing start and either eliminate the riders ahead of them by catching them, or avoid being eliminated by not being caught. The winner is either the only rider left over the course of  16 laps for seniors and juniors or 8 laps for youths, or the rider with the best time over the full distance.

As mentioned, to qualify for this event you are required to finish in the top 6 of the warm up race and, as mentioned, for youths this will involve separate events for youth a's, youth bs and the top six youth girls of either category.

The Eddie Beck Memorial

As well as the elite level Rob Jefferies Memorial event, there is the Eddie Beck Memorial series of events. Named after another popular member of the South's friendliest club, the Eddie Beck Memorial comprises of a series of events identical to the 'elite' series of events but aimed toward the club rider.

Consisting of a 20 lap warm up race, a roadman's pursuit for the lucky first six of the warm up, a devil and a 40 lap points race, the events do not count towards and national hard track league points. However, they do all have prizes and the points race - like the headline event - also carries a prime for each of the sprint laps. So that's every fifth of the 40 laps, making a total of eight prizes up for grabs.

This event was dreamt up precisely as an event for riders of local track leagues to target. If you can handle yourself in your local 'b' league, wherever that may be, then put your name down, have a go and see if you can win some cash.

Another week, another sponsorship  announcement. This time, it is AECC - the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic - stepping up to provide assistance to both the prize fund and the riders at the event.

The Bournemouth-based AECC is one of the largest chiropractic colleges in Europe and students in their final year are set to work in the colleges own clinic, treating sports injuries and the like. And where better to find a group of people in need of - or soon likely to need - a little physiotherapy than a bike race?

The Rob Jeff Mem

Hello everybody. This is the website for the Rob Jefferies Memorial, that will be happening at the Bournemouth Cycling Center on July 28th. Updates and news on the event will be appearing here.

The feature race to this event is The Rob Jefferies Memorial Fistful of Tenners 25km Dash For Cash. This is a 100 lap, 25km points race, with points and primes every 10 laps. Finishers in this race will be elidgible for points in the National Hard Track Endurance League.

As well as this is the Allan Spencer Devil, which has a prize fund of £100, as well as a 10 lap warm up race, from which the first 6 finishers will go through to a roadman's pursuit.

There is another series of events for 3rd cat and below riders, with the 10km, 25 lap Eddie Beck Memorial Race as it's main feature - also a points race and also with points and primes every 5 laps. Similary, this program has a devil, 10 lap warm up and 6-up roadman's pursuit. This series of races is meant for "lower catergory" riders, as well as riders in their first season of competition. Seeding for both races is at the organiser's discretion and, please note,  experienced and accredited riders only please! We WILL be checking.

Further to this, there will be races for Youth A & B riders, as soon as we've sorted those out. Stay tuned.
